The Lean/Lock Map

By Jeremy Singer-Vine and Chris Wilson.

Any given Lean/Lock player may or may not hold the secrets to the midterm elections, but adding up all the predictions gives one a window into the widsom of all players. This map displays two pieces of real-time information: The split in each race between the Democrat and Republican—represented by the color—and the percentage of user who have locked their choice, represented by the opacity.

For example, a light red means most players have chosen the Republican to win but few are confident enough to lock to that choice. Dark blue means most players have locked to the Democrat. The matrix in the lower left provides a key to the partisan split and certainty for every shade.

As the election season progress, we'll be monitoring the aggregated score every day and monitoring the progress of the results. Look for a graph of the results over time sometime soon.
